VIRTUAL REALITY

The virtual reality world of Second Life gave Z. Sharon Glantz aka Lailu Loon a new and exciting venue to explore. Avatars are like puppets manipulated by real people in this three dimensional world. Participants start businesses buying, selling and managing real estate or they create and sell clothes, buildings, landscaping and countless other items. The two biggest activities are probably shopping and sex.

Invisible Threads: A virtual Sweatshop at the Sundance Film Festival (2007)

Invisible Threads was a mixed reality performance installation created by Jeff Crouse and Stephanie Rothenberg. The project explored the growing intersection between labor, emerging virtual economies and real life commodities through the creation of a designer jeans sweatshop in  Second Life. Workers produced real world jeans sold at the Sundance Film Festival

As Lailu Loon, Z. Sharon Glantz played the Floor Manager, orchestrating the interaction of characters through text (voice wasn’t part of the interface yet).
